World Water Week 2026 will take place from 23 to 27 August under the theme of “Water for People and Progress”, convening policymakers, practitioners, researchers and civil society to advance solutions for a more just and water-secure future.
Organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the World Water Week 2026 programme will focus on water security and safely managed drinking water and sanitation as foundations for human development, health and resilience, with particular attention to communities facing persistent inequality. Aligning with World Water Day 2026 and the United Nations World Water Development Report, water and gender will be a prominent topic.
The sessions at World Water Week 2026 will focus on water for people, reviewing progress under the Sustainable Development Goals and looking ahead to their successors. Overall, the programme will centre on the issues most critical to equitable human development in a changing climate.
